2008: The Revolution Begins

Our founder, Andrew Youderian, ditched his soul-crushing investment banking gig to launch an online CB radio business, utilizing a heavily customized Zencart store because Shopify wasn’t a thing. Trading spreadsheets and 80-hour work weeks for the thrilling world of trucker communication equipment wasn’t the most obvious career pivot, but it set the foundation for everything that followed.

2012: The Blog is Born

Andrew had accumulated enough eCom battle scars to start a blog sharing the nitty-gritty reality of building online stores that sell unglamorous products. His refreshingly honest takes struck a chord with other operators tired of unrealistic advice from Fortune 500 perspectives that had nothing to do with their daily struggles.

2013: Community & Podcast Launch

The eCommerceFuel private community launched in 2013 with 150 founding members, focusing exclusively on experienced operators helping each other level up. Andrew also launched the eCommerceFuel podcast that summer, channeling his questionably relevant background as a college radio DJ into what would become one of the industry’s longest-running shows.

2014: ECF Live Debut + Business Sale

The inaugural ECF Live event brought 50 members together in Austin in 2014, losing money in spectacular fashion but cementing lifelong friendships that continue to this day in our community. That same year, Andrew sold one of his stores, TrollingMotors.net, through a publicity-generating reverse auction that was just crazy enough to help put eCommerceFuel on the map.

2016:  Going All-In

2016 marked the official transition from store owner to community leader as Andrew sold his last eCommerce business.  In the decade since, he’s launched numerous new ventures (job boards, investment syndicates, an ill-fated seatback organizer brand) but his first love and focus has remained the Community.

2019: Sabbaticals for All

Annual month-long sabbaticals became a core benefit for all full-time domestic team members in 2019, putting ECF’s money where its mouth was. This wasn’t just about recruitment – it was a public commitment to the radical idea that serious business success doesn’t require sacrificing everything else that matters in life.

2020: Pandemic Lifeline

During COVID, the community became a crisis war room, where some members solicited strategies for managing 10x overnight growth while others got support pivoting away from suddenly non-viable product lines. 

2021: Love for Larger Sellers

ECF launched its 8- and 9-figure owner’s group and the exclusive eComm Camp retreat, creating a dedicated space for larger operators to connect. Rather than walling these members off, the approach integrated them into the broader community while giving them a focused corner to discuss the unique challenges of running businesses at scale.

2024: Family Gap Year

Andrew embarked on a family gap year, drastically reducing his workload to focus on making memories with his kids through international travel, homeschooling, outdoor adventures and extended family time. Being with family 24/7 tested everyone’s sanity at moments, but the experience deepened his resolve to help entrepreneurs build businesses that enable rich lives rather than monopolize them, even as he struggled with his own workaholic tendencies.

2025:  Rebrand to eComFuel

In 2025, we said farewell to our beloved (but let’s be honest, somewhat dated) fire-farting shopping cart logo circa 2008 from 99Designs.com and rebranded from eCommerceFuel to eComFuel. The change reflected our expanded mission to help entrepreneurs build not just successful businesses but intentional, meaningful lives – while opening our doors to digitally-native entrepreneurs beyond traditional eCommerce who share our values.

Today:  1,000+ Members Across the Globe

Today’s eComFuel is 1,000 members strong, spanning 39+ countries and collectively generating enough revenue ($13+ billion) to make a small country jealous.  Our forums buzz with 4,000+ monthly contributions, and our events calendar stays packed year-round.
